Fireflies

steamy night
fireflies
out in the rain                © Jim Kacian

steamy night
heat lightening flashes
in darkening skies

fireflies
dance across the lawn
decorating the trees

out in the rain
cooling in the fine droplets
stars prod through the clouds

After the Rain

after the rain
heat of the earth rising
to my fingertips

breathing deeply
damp earth mingled with jasmine
ancient memories

white valley clouds
rekindling promises
tear stains dry

Wind of Fuji

Carpe Diem #1682 Troiku month (11) The Wind Of Fuji

the wind of Fuji
I’ve brought on my fan
a gift from Edo                       © Basho

the wind of Fuji
scented with romance
tantalizing

I’ve brought on my fan
hiding my glances
cooling desires

a gift from Edo
still felt upon my skin
secret remembrance

Gathering flowers

gathering flowers
walk in spring woods
arousing appetite

unexpected guests
arrive early afternoon
crawl across table

come to dinner
enjoy natures beauties
watch out for chiggers

The Aroma of Pine

Carpe Diem #1676 Troiku Month (5) the aroma of pine

the aroma of pine
and the young morning’s fresh rain
reach my words
© Hamish “Managua” Gunn (Taken from “Shinrin Yoku, the art of forest bathing”)

the aroma of pine
fills up the senses
stirring desires

and the young morning’s fresh rain
breathing new life
into parched earth

reach my words
water of imagination
life in barren fields

Buson’s Memorial Day

Carpe Diem #1587 Buson’s Memorial Day (busonki) (January 17th)

someone goes by wearing a hood
in his own darkness
not seeing the harvest moon

the first light snow
then when the bowl of the sky is empty
the moon hanging in the bamboos

© Yosa Buson

early snow
harvest moon hides its face
in bamboo shadows

early snow
last of the monkshood
dusted in white

harvest moon hides its face
gourd tendrils weave through garden
searching the light

in bamboo shadows
the last of the harvesters
hurry home

Troiku Hineri – Apple Blossoms

Carpe Diem Weekend Meditation #67 Troiku Hineri: Apple Blossoms

light carried in my arms
apple blossoms from a neighbor
on my doorstep

clusters talking
together in admiration
apple blossoms

sun transformed
into apple blossoms
the ground is level

the dam is broken
spring cascades into valleys
as apple blossoms

“fusion-ku”

my doorstep adorned
cascading apple blossoms
dance in the sunlight

 “Troiku Hineri”

my doorstep adorned
cascading apple blossoms
dance in the sunlight

my doorstep adorned
my feet bathed in pink petals
kissed in softness

cascading apple blossoms
alight on my shoulder
spreading perfume

dance in the sunlight
partnered with the breeze
twirling dizzily

my doorstep adorned
sunlight and blossoms
waltz into the house

my feet bathed in pink petals
scattered with each bouncing step
emotions surge

kissed in softness
dapple light shadows
chase away winter

cascading apple blossoms
shower the bare garden
in hues of pink

alight on my shoulder
spirits of the springtime
carry me forward

spreading perfume
the breeze tickles my senses
floating along

dance in the sunlight
warmth bathing my soul
tears of joy

partnered with the breeze
hair flying wildly
racing toward your arms

twirling dizzily
your embraces dispels
ache of your absence

Moonlight

Carpe Diem #1580 moonlight (modern kigo, extracted from “A Dictionary of Haiku”)

winter moon’s pale light
my dreams pierced with coldness
I walk alone

winter moon’s pale light
encompasses the maple
in silvery gown

my dreams pierced with coldness
shadowy figures roam
passing through me

I walk alone
unable to make contact
with the past

Seven Days Before Christmas Day 3 – Meditation

Carpe Diem Seven Days Before Christmas 2018 (3) Meditation

if you missed day to it is at my other site: Day 2

christmas1

silence of the night
broken by a newborn’s cry
new light of the world

silence of the night
stars paving the road
light unto darkness

broken by a newborn’s cry
a mother’s height of pain
fresh hope

new light of the world
innocence to conquer sin
lamb for sacrifice
