Weekend Meditation -First Line Only

Carpe Diem Weekend-Meditation #16 Only The First Line “steel blue night”

“a walk through the city”

a walk through the city
wet snow clinging
to the heart

“hot summer day”

hot summer day
the mosquito’s whine
blended with beauty

“the passing spring”

the passing spring
daffodils fade
into the night

“steel blue night”

steel blue night
moonflowers burgeon
across the lawn

Troiku Challenge

“lost in the corn fields”

lost in the corn fields
sounds of summer
reverberating

lost in the corn fields
sound of laughter
hidden children

sounds of summer
invading my dreams
stirring hope

reverberating
within a maze
faded memories

ancient warriors
reliving heroic deeds
in story and song

between battle and peace
horrors of war fade
fighting glorified

writing haiku
drawing strength from nature
resolving conflict

Christmas bells
toll the midnight hour
worshippers depart

pouring excitement
fat flakes waltz from heaven
moon lighting the way

into the air
carols fade
world transformed

Weekend Meditation – Troiku (1)

winter solitude –
in a world of one color
the sound of wind                             © Matsuo Basho (1644-1694)

winter solitude –
a gust of wind
steals my hat

in a world of one color
faint tracks of a rabbit
crisscross the lawn

the sound of wind
dancing in the branches
sifting snow

Troiku – Haiku’s state of mind

Carpe Diem #1290 spiritual way – Haiku’s state of mind – zen

Troiku

emptiness
deep inside
missing you

IMG_2320.JPG

emptiness
garden stripped
of joy

deep inside
unending ache
your departure

missing you
unending winter
bathed in tears

Abalone Shells

Carpe Diem #1288 abalone shells

Troiku

abalone.jpg

smudging ceremony
an abalone shell hosts
harmony

abalone shell
tossed and tumbled
ocean of strength

abalone shell
vessel for burning ashes
smoke carrying prayers

harmony
caressing abalone shell
love restored

On the River

Carpe Diem Weekend-meditation #3 on the river

on the river
lights float to the horizon
the dead rejoice                                 © Basho

floating candles
floating lights

on the river
paper lanterns
set adrift

lights float on the horizon
guiding the departed
to the spirit world

the dead rejoice
as spirits return
from whence they began

Creating Beauty

Carpe Diem #1259 creating beauty
Today’s prompt reminded me of the first time I got to try to make pottery on a wheel in my best friend’s basement.
pottery

fresh slab of clay
wedging air bubbles
spinning and shaping

fresh slab of clay
cut with wire from a block
a treat from you dad

wedging air bubbles
hands full of fatigue
not done yet

spinning and shaping
vessel beginning to emerge
collapsing again

            IMG_8326

from experience
your vessel holds it’s shape
a thing of beauty
forty odd years on my desk
token of youth and friendship

A hundred Gourds

Carpe Diem Weekend-Meditation #2 Troiku “a hundred gourds”

Chiyo-Ni haiku gourds (1)

a hundred gourds
sprouting on top
the compost heap

from the heart
growth overflowing
shades of green

of one vine
twisting and turning
many fruits
