Carpe Diem 1795 New Beginnings … Rainbow

promise of spring
a rainbow shimmers above
winter garden

after the storm
a rainbow reminds us
to have faith

Redwing Blackbird

perched on  the treetop
redwing blackbird shimmies
shaking water from his back

from treetop perch
redwing blackbird shakes his head
with precision
dispelling water
rainy afternoon

Waiting for Morning

Carpe Diem # 955 Morning

after midnight
the big dipper empties
over the maple

at two a.m.
the evening star balances
on the neighbors roof

around five
one bright star high overhead
and tree shadows

before dawn
the clouds fill with light
start of perfect day

air fills with birdsong
amber orb ablaze

early morning
the smell of fresh cut grass
and a rooster’s crow

 morning heat.jpg

morning heat
tulip bows
to the sun

to the edges of life
autumn leaves

River of Time

Beyond the breath of time
Collective memories cradle us
as we relive this moment again and again.
River of tears forever etched;
The voice of our ancestors still warm.

Just for Fun Poetry Challenge

Who is up for a poetry contest?

Okay, so I found the following list in my poetry file from 2007.  An unfinished poem? Not a clue what I was going to write about.  So here’s the challenge – You have two weeks to submit a poem based on the list in red.  On March 6th, it will switch to voting and you will have one week to vote for your three favorite poems.  I will post these three on a blog with links to the authors..

Trembling tears

captured in threads

Devoted kiss
weeping death

the red silence
silken tales

Roses of obsession
whispering tears
flames of waves
splintered thorn
lost petals
frozen kiss
weeping in the sky

loose threads

How lonely I would be
left behind on my desk
an unfinished poem
in the glorious morning sun

Late at night
unable to sleep
I wander the house
cobwebs still
fill my head
I lie back down
but sleep
sleep will not come
my mind churning
spewing out thoughts
faster than I can think
my eyes dry
and heavy
with lack of sleep
I rise once more
I read, I write
I nod
but sleep is fickle
it does not come to me
to me
     to me
