Carpe Diem #1612 Tan Renga Challenge Month 2019 (16) plumegrass
While you decline to cry,
high on the mountainside
a single stalk of plume grass wilts. © Ō no Yasumaro (circa 711), (Tr. Michael R. Burch)
beaten down by sun and wind
my heart echoes barren hill

Carpe Diem #1523 H.F. Noyes’ … rusty toy truck (Renga With …)
bright fall day
the brook wanders off
its shimmer lingers
wittering pine siskins
flashing yellow
raking aside leaves
on the backyard pond
I release the moon
a koi breaks its hold
in a wake of ripples
evening walk
the creak of my boots
invades the stars
stirrings of crickets echo
in the distance an owl’s screech
full moon rising
nowhere on the empty beach
to hide our love
seeds of passion surge
a stolen kiss returned
as if nothing happened
the crow there
the willow here
walk continues
down forgotten trail
rusty toy truck
stuck on the mudbank
a cargo of blossoms
filtered light of a street lamp
illuminating sakura

Carpe Diem #1512 Chiyo-Ni … THE female haiku master (Renga With …)
The hokKu for this renga are by my favorite haiku artist, Chiyo-Ni
morning glory!
the well bucket-entangled,
I ask for water
from the pond itself
my hand stirs reflection
a single spider’s thread
ties the duckweed
to the shore
watching in fascination
the eight legged trapeze artist
a dandelion
now and then interrupting
the butterfly’s dream
bits of fluff airborne
twirl with delight
sound of things
dropping from the tree–
autumn wind
tall grasses turning to seed
summer flowers brown with age
parents older than I
are now my children
the same cicadas
keeping the passage of time
the river ebbs and flows
to listen,
fine not to listen, fine too…
nightingale
songs of the seasons
songs of sadness and joy

Renga With Basho #9 A Mark On The Wall
path of the sun
the hollyhock leans into
early summer rain
shallow roots struggling
for a deeper ballast
don’t be like me
even though we’re like the melon
split in two
neglected and forgotten
our relationship decays
wait awhile
cut the soy beans to the sound
of monks beating bowls
sync the rhythm of our lives
press my heart to yours
summer rain
where the poem card peeled off
a mark on the wall
your words scaring my heart
crumbling tear stained paper
building a bridge
between snow-covered mountains
white egrets
flimsy patch bares its limit
broken threads dangle loosely
plovers fly away
the evening grows later with
cold mountain winds
our hands linger momentarily
last touch as we separate
