lops down the street

humid afternoon
cicadas hum incessant hum
and a cloud of gnats
fading light
a spiderweb quivers
with excitement
walk in the garden
wind drops a red leaf
at my feet
departing autumn
a sweater and hot tea
warm the porch swing
across the walkway
moonflower vines sprawl
departing summer
autumn reflections
resound with departing geese
loneliness spreads
autumn sunset
my daughter mourns the loss
of a caterpillar
