On the River

Carpe Diem Weekend-meditation #3 on the river

on the river
lights float to the horizon
the dead rejoice                                 © Basho

floating candles
floating lights

on the river
paper lanterns
set adrift

lights float on the horizon
guiding the departed
to the spirit world

the dead rejoice
as spirits return
from whence they began

Creating Beauty

Carpe Diem #1259 creating beauty
Today’s prompt reminded me of the first time I got to try to make pottery on a wheel in my best friend’s basement.
pottery

fresh slab of clay
wedging air bubbles
spinning and shaping

fresh slab of clay
cut with wire from a block
a treat from you dad

wedging air bubbles
hands full of fatigue
not done yet

spinning and shaping
vessel beginning to emerge
collapsing again

            IMG_8326

from experience
your vessel holds it’s shape
a thing of beauty
forty odd years on my desk
token of youth and friendship

Daily Bread

Carpe Diem #1258 daily bread

Today’s image of a bakery prompted three responses

bakery.jpg

heart of the city
profusion of warmth and smells
tantalizing

~~~
warmth of the hearth
scent of bread and smoke
entwined
____
grandma’s kitchen
cardamon mingles with clove
love brushed with butter
Grains of Sand
carpe diem 1256 grains of sand
time
like grains of sand
spread thin
desert sands
scatter in the winds
my heart
A hundred Gourds
Carpe Diem Weekend-Meditation #2 Troiku “a hundred gourds”
Chiyo-Ni haiku gourds (1)
a hundred gourds
sprouting on top
the compost heap
from the heart
growth overflowing
shades of green
of one vine
twisting and turning
many fruits
In My Garden
Carpe Diem Weekend-Meditation #2 Troiku “a hundred gourds”
in my garden
starflowers bloom
come and see                          © Chiyo-Ni (age 6)
dragonfly
in my garden
butterflies dance
with dragonflies
starflowers bloom
along the pathway
gems of white
come and see
crawling on the fennel
fat caterpillars
