Carpe Diem “Haiku Writing Techniques” #2, Onomatopoeia
onomatopoeia -Merriam Webster
1: the naming of a thing or action by a vocal imitation of the sound associated with it (as buzz, hiss)
2: the use of words whose sound suggests the sense
the gruff Cha Cha Cha
of the Red-bellied Woodpecker
sounds through the trees
focus on the shrill kwir, kwir
enables me to find him
~
crackling firelight
casts creature shadows
around the cabin
~
the kittens soft purr
as it dozes in my lap
tail twitches slightly
~
the plip, plip, plop
of the last raindrops
clinging to gutter
~
the rustle –
of the spring wind
through the leaves
~
tumultuous gurgle
of the fish tank –
keeping me awake
