Day 69 -Bird Watch- Haibun Journey View From My Window
Outside my window, I hear the loud kwirr, kwirr, kwirr of the Red Bellied Woodpecker. I search the trees from my window wondering where he is located. I finally spot his brilliant red head bobbing up and down the oak tree. I’m not sure if he is whistling while he works or complaining boisterously about the cold. Anyway his shrill noises were much more favorable than that of the women loudly cussing the cold at the grocery. Later under the same tree, I watch the leaves swirl in the wind. One is especially aerobatic. Upon further inspection I see it is a Jenny Wren, unusually quiet, foraging for food. With our heated homes, readily available food, and warm clothes we should not complain about the cold.
